Elwood Jensen, Ph.D. has been awarded the Dorothy P. Landon - AACR Prize for Translational Cancer Research

Elwood Jensen, Ph.D.Dr. Jensen [one of the original founding members of the BMDCR with Charles Huggins, Paul Talalay and Albert Lehninger] is a true pioneer in the field of endocrinology and cancer. His identification of the estrogen receptor, and subsequent studies refuting the prevailing view of estrogen action, has clearly shifted our understanding of the action of steroid hormones and has advanced cancer treatment. Dr. Jensen's achievements also include purifying the receptor, making the first polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, and contributing to the cloning of the estrogen receptor cDNA. The result of these discoveries led to later studies linking ER to prognosis and treatment response in breast cancer.

Dr. Jensen shares the award with Dr. V. Craig Jordan of Northwestern University.
